LETTER TO CAGE CAMPAIGN SUPPORTERS – 16th september 2021

  • by

Dear CAGE supporter,

Re (4): Amended plan letter for 20/02586/FUL – Land at Oakdown Farm, Winchester Road, Dummer, Basingstoke, Hampshire.

You may have recently received the letter with the above reference, about changes submitted by the developers of the proposed Amazon warehouse.  As the letter states, it is not necessary to write to object again as your previously sent letters of objection will stand. No date has yet been set for the Development Control Committee to reconsider the application, but should you wish to write, the deadline for comments is 28th September.

HOWEVER, THE REVISED PLAN STILL REQUIRES THE DESTRUCTION OF THE AVENUE OF 70 MATURE OAK AND BEECH TREES.

Despite many requests and recommendations, no Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) have ever been issued by the Council regarding this mature priority habitat. As you may know, in June we launched the SaveOakdownOaks petition to save the trees. To date this has attracted over 102,000 national and international signatures. With over 4,000 of these signatures coming from residents of the Borough we, as the petitioners, have the right to require it to be debated by the full Council.

The next meeting of the full Council is scheduled for 14th October, and we will be pushing strongly to have this on the agenda.

To kick-off this process we will formally deliver the petition to our local councillors, Diane Taylor, Hannah Golding and Paul Gaskell sometime in the next week and are confident that they will do their utmost to ensure this is properly debated and considered by all 54 of the elected members of the Council.

Please contact us if you have any questions. In the meantime, we will keep you posted on developments. Thank you again for your invaluable support for this campaign – it is still very much alive!
